The E-W to WNW-ESE striking Kunlun Fault Zone, extending about 1600 km, is one of the large strike-slip faults in the northern Tibet, China. As a major strike-slip fault, it plays an important role on the extrusion of Tibet Plateau in accommodating northeastward shortening caused by the India-Asia convergence. However, the time of initiation left-lateral faulting of the Kunlun Fault Zone is still largely debated, ranging from the Middle to Late Triassic (240–200 Ma) to early Quaternary (2 Ma). We document displaced basement rocks and geomorphic features along the Kunlun Fault Zone, based on tectono-geomorphic interpretation of satellite remote sensing images and field geologic and geomorphic observations. Our results show that the largest cumulative offset of basement rocks is likely to be 100 ± 20 km. Meanwhile, a series of pull-apart basins (Kusai, Xiugou and Tuosu lake basins) and pressure ridges (East Deshuiwai and Maji Snow Mountains), each 45–70 km long and ∼8–12 km wide, are developed along the Kunlun Fault Zone, which resulted from long-term tectono-geomorphic growth since the Late Miocene or Early Pliocene. Geologic evidence indicates that the Kunlun Fault Zone had a long-term slip rate of ca.10 mm/yr during the late Quaternary. This slip rate is similar to that shown by present-day GPS measurements. Thus, we estimate that the Kunlun Fault Zone probably began left-lateral faulting at 10 ± 2 Ma based on a total displacement of 100 ± 20 km, and assuming a constant long-term slip rate of ca.10 mm/yr for several millions of years. And this timing constraint on initiation of left-lateral faulting of the Kunlun Fault Zone is consistent with widespread tectonic deformation which occurred in the Tibetan Plateau.  相似文献

Initial findings from high-latitude ice-cores implied a relatively unvarying Holocene climate, in contrast to the major climate swings in the preceding late-Pleistocene. However, several climate archives from low latitudes imply a less than equable Holocene climate, as do recent studies on peat bogs in mainland north-west Europe, which indicate an abrupt climate cooling 2800 years ago, with parallels claimed in a range of climate archives elsewhere. A hypothesis that this claimed climate shift was global, and caused by reduced solar activity, has recently been disputed. Until now, no directly comparable data were available from the southern hemisphere to help resolve the dispute. Building on investigations of the vegetation history of an extensive mire in the Valle de Andorra, Tierra del Fuego, we took a further peat core from the bog to generate a high-resolution climate history through the use of determination of peat humification and quantitative leaf-count plant macrofossil analysis. Here, we present the new proxy-climate data from the bog in South America. The data are directly comparable with those in Europe, as they were produced using identical laboratory methods. They show that there was a major climate perturbation at the same time as in northwest European bogs. Its timing, nature and apparent global synchronicity lend support to the notion of solar forcing of past climate change, amplified by oceanic circulation. This finding of a similar response simultaneously in both hemispheres may help validate and improve global climate models. That reduced solar activity might cause a global climatic change suggests that attention be paid also to consideration of any global climate response to increases in solar activity. This has implications for interpreting the relative contribution of climate drivers of recent ‘global warming’.  相似文献

Core sediment samples were collected from the middle shelf of the East China Sea (ECS) to study the phosphorus forms, P accumulation rate (PAR), P burial efficiency and the burial flux in the ECS. The sediment samples were sequentially extracted and directly extracted to analyze different forms of sedimentary P: lossely sorbed P and iron-bound P (PCDB); inorganic P associated with francolite (carbonate fluorapatite, CFA), biogenic hydroxyapatite, smecite, and CaCO3 (PCFA); detrital P (PDetrital); organic P (POrganic); and total P. In addition, the Fe contents in the citrate-dithionite-bicarbonate (CDB) extracted solution were also measured.The total concentrations of P in the surface sediments in the study area ranged from 13.5 to 22.3 μmol g−1. Inorganic P was the major form and accounted for 72–93% of the total P pool. The average percentage of each fraction of P followed the sequence: PDetrital (70%)>POrganic (15.5%)>PCDB (8.4%)>PCFA (5.8%). The distribution pattern of total P in the surface sediment was similar to that of PDetrital and POrganic, but different from that of PCDB and PCFA. The profile variation of POrganic was the most significant among the phosphorus forms at the study stations. The concentrations of PCDB and PCFA showed minor variation with depth. These results may suggest that transformations of POrganic, PCFA and PCDB occurred at the study stations during sedimentary P burial.Based on the concentrations of total P, PCDB and FeCDB obtained in the present study and the mass accumulation rate (MAR) reported in the literature, the values of the PAR, the P diffusion flux (JPFe) supplied by reducible iron hydroxides and the P burial efficiency were calculated. The calculated results for PAR and JPFe in the study area ranged from 1.02 to 24.23 μmol cm−2 yr−1 and from 0.1 to 2.11 μmol cm−2 yr−1, respectively. The phosphorus burial efficiency (PBE) was approximately 90%. The ECS is a phosphorus sink, and the average annual P burial flux has been reasonably estimated to be in the range of 20–25×109 mol yr−1.  相似文献

华北板块北缘东段分布的构造混杂岩带为研究古亚洲洋的演化提供了重要的依据,"下二台岩群"作为该构造混杂岩带的重要组成部分,其形成时代和构造属性仍存在争议。详细的研究表明下二台地区变质火山岩原岩包括流纹岩、英安岩、安山岩,为一套钙碱性火山岩,属于准铝质-弱过铝质岩石,根据岩相学和地球化学特征将其分为变质酸性火山岩和变质中性火山岩;二者均相对富集轻稀土元素,亏损重稀土元素,轻重稀土元素分馏明显,Eu负异常不明显,但变质中性火山岩稀土总量低于变质酸性火山岩,变质酸性火山岩明显亏损Sr、P元素,结合野外产出面积和高场强元素相关性特征,认为二者不是同一基性岩浆分异的产物。变质火山岩锆石LA-ICP-MS U-Pb年龄为341~348Ma,代表其原岩结晶年龄。变质酸性火山岩原始岩浆来自于地壳物质的部分熔融,变质中性火山岩原始岩浆来自于俯冲带附近岩石圈地幔,并遭受了地壳物质的混染,二者均形成于活动大陆边缘火山弧环境。最新研究成果表明"下二台岩群"由不同时代、不同构造环境下形成的地质单元叠置混杂而成,称其为"下二台"构造杂岩更为准确。下二台地区变质火山岩表明在早石炭世初,古亚洲洋板块已经南向俯冲,在华北板块北缘形成活动大陆边缘弧环境,早石炭世变质火山岩原岩为这一俯冲阶段的产物。  相似文献

To better understand the origin of voluminous silicic rocks in a convergent continental margin, we conducted an integrated study in which we have obtained geochronological, mineralogical, and isotopic (including whole-rock Sr–Nd–Pb, in-situ zircon Hf) data of the Heri batholith in West Qinling on the NE Tibetan Plateau. The batholith is composed of metaluminous to weakly peraluminous granodiorites (235–233 Ma) and porphyritic granodiorites (230–223 Ma) with an I-type affinity. Both lithologies share similar major, trace elemental and SrNd isotopic compositions. Detailed elemental data demonstrate that these granodioritic rocks underwent fractional crystallization of hornblende and apatite, with plagioclase (i.e. sieve-textured plagioclase cores) accumulation to some extent. Except for porphyritic granodiorites, the Pb isotopes for other analyzed samples are characterized by high radiogenicity and uniformity ((206Pb/204Pb)t: 17.263–18.472, (206Pb/204Pb)t: 15.571–15.591, and (206Pb/204Pb)t: 38.032–38.304), together with limited variations in initial Sr ((87Sr/86Sr)t: 0.707251–0.708103) and Nd (εNd(t) = −7.1 to −6.3) isotopes with two-stage model ages (TDM2) of 1.58–1.52 Ga. These factors collectively point to a derivation from the Mesoproterozoic basement rocks at the lower crustal level, or a comprehensive mixing of different-age components that generated an average crustal residence age. The SrNd isotopic compositions of the porphyritic granodiorites are strikingly similar to those of granodiorites. Compared with the experimental melt compositions of amphibolites, the Heri granitoids are probably derived from an amphibolitic source under fluid-absent conditions due to the incongruent breakdown of amphibole and biotite. Based on the temporal–spatial distribution of granitic intrusions in West Qinling and the regional tectonic evolution, our interpretation is that the Heri batholith was formed during the initial collision between the North China Craton (NCC) and the South China Craton (SCC), which was accompanied by the closure of the Paleotethyan Ocean. Considering both previously published data and our new data, we propose that the Heri granitoids were mainly generated by the partial melting of lower crustal amphibolites, with minor mantle-derived melts.  相似文献

Summary Of twelve flows at Pavagadh Hill, the two three-phenocryst-basalt flows with Mg#0.70 and Ni/MgO33 are the most primitive and perhaps as primitive as any basalts in the Deccan province. Scatter on variation diagrams and the occurrence of primitive flows at two different levels in the volcanic sequence implies that most rocks are probably not, strictly speaking, comagmatic. Nevertheless, mass balance calculations indicate a generalized differentiation scheme from primitive basalt to hawaiite that involved removal of olivine, augite, plagioclase and Fe-Ti oxides in the proportions 40:33:22:5 with 50% of the magma remaining. Crustal assimilation had a minimal effect on evolution of the basalts but rhyolites at the top of the volcanic sequence may have been produced by crustal melting following prolonged heat release from alkali basalt pooled along fault zones in the continental crust. Major element based calculations indicate that the most primitive basalts were generated by 7 to 10% melting of mantle peridotite. These low percentages of melting, typical of alkali basalts, are consistent with the steep slopes on chondrite-normalized REE diagrams. Low heavy REE concentrations point to residual garnet in the source region. Incompatible element concentrations (e.g. Rb, Ba, Zr, La) in Pavagadh basalts exceed those in Deccan tholeiitic basalts but are substantially lower than those reported for some other Deccan alkali basalts. Obviously Pavagadh basalts do not reflect the lowest percentages of melting and greatest amount of source region metasomatic enrichment attained in the Deccan province. Deccan tholeiitic and alkali basalts are largely characterized by low La/Nb ratios and high La/Ba ratios similar to those in oceanic island basalts. This indicates minimal involvement of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle in their petrogenesis. Comparison with continental mafic magma provinces where a subcontinental lithospheric mantle imprint is common indicates long periods of extension and/or melting of mantle lithosphere still hot from pre-extension subduction are more likely to produce magmas bearing the lithospheric imprint.
Alkalische Basalte von Pavagadh Hill, Indien: Deccan-Flutbasalte von Astenosphärischer Herkunft
Zusammenfassung Im Gebiet von Pavagadh Hill, Indien, treten 12 Spät-Deccan und rhyolithische alkalibasaltische Ergüsse und Intrusiva auf. Variationsdiagramme zeigen, daß die Abfolge nicht komagmatisch ist. Zusammen mit Berechnungen der Massenbilanz unterstützen sie vielmehr ein Zwei-Stadienmodell für die Entstehung von Hawaiiten aus sehr primitiven (i.e. Mg#=Mg/(Mg+.(0.9*Fetotat)) at.%0.70) Basalten. Olivin und Augit dominierten die frühe Fraktionierung während Augit vorherrschte als der Magmaanteil von 65% auf 50% sank. Die Entfernung von Plagioklas spielte bei der Differentiation nur eine geringe Rolle. Niedrige Th/Nb (0,2), Rb/Sr(<0,12) und K/NbVerhältnisse geben keine Hinweise auf signifikante Assimilation von Krustenmaterial. Die Seltene-Erd-Verteilungsmuster (SEE), niedrige Gehalte an schweren SEE sowie die Hauptelementspektren der Alkalibasalte weisen auf eine granatführende Ursprungsregion und auf einen Aufschmelzungsgrad von nur 7% bis 10% hin. Es gibt jedoch auch stärker alkalische (höhere Rb, Zr etc.) Deccanbasalte (i.e. Rajpipla). Die Assoziation von Deccanalkalibasalten, Rhyolithen und Störungszonen zeigt, daß letztere die Extraktion von Magma aus dem Mantel erleichterten und dazu führten, daß Magma aus Magmenkammern Krustenschmelzen (Rhyolithe) produzierte. Deccanbasalte tendieren zu hohen La/Ba und niedrigen La/Nb-Verhältnissen; dies weist auf eine asthenosphärische Herkunft hin, selbst wenn die Gesteine verhältnismäßig spät gebildet wurden (i.e. Pavagadh). Längere Perioden von Krustenextension oder von Subduktion, die der Extension vorhergeht, führt offensichtlich zur Entstehung von Magmen mit einer lithosphärischen Komponente.

What have been the moral values and practices allowing equitable economic opportunities and a sense of fairness in North American small-scale fisheries? How have these “moral economies” been affected by neoliberal policies with their emphasis on efficiency, rational self-interest, and wealth accumulation? Focusing especially on the salmon and halibut fisheries in British Columbia, Canada, this discussion summarizes key findings on the manner in which small-scale fisheries and their moral practices tend to be marginalized and undervalued under neoliberal regimes. The paper considers the value of these moral economies for promoting social, economic, and ecological welfare as grounds for the expansion of small-scale fisheries.  相似文献

Based on a radiocarbon and paleomagnetically dated sediment record from the northern Red Sea and the exceptional sensitivity of the regional changes in the oxygen isotope composition of sea water to the sea-level-dependent water exchange with the Indian Ocean, we provide a new global sea-level reconstruction spanning the last glacial period. The sea-level record has been extracted from the temperature-corrected benthic stable oxygen isotopes using coral-based sea-level data as constraints for the sea-level/oxygen isotope relationship. Although, the general features of this millennial-scale sea-level records have strong similarities to the rather symmetric and gradual Southern Hemisphere climate patterns, we observe, in constrast to previous findings, pronounced sea level rises of up to 25 m to generally correspond with Northern Hemisphere warmings as recorded in Greenland ice-core interstadial intervals whereas sea-level lowstands mostly occur during cold phases. Corroborated by CLIMBER-2 model results, the close connection of millennial-scale sea-level changes to Northern Hemisphere temperature variations indicates a primary climatic control on the mass balance of the major Northern Hemisphere ice sheets and does not require a considerable Antarctic contribution.  相似文献

Temporal changes in oceanic denitrification, the bacterial reduction of nitrate under suboxic conditions, highlight the potential importance of N inventory changes and the production of N2O on the climate system. At the same time, the cause of the globally observed variation in denitrification remains unclear. High-resolution benthic foraminiferal oxygen isotope and bulk sediment nitrogen isotope records from ODP Site 1234 on the Chile Margin record integrated denitrification changes within the Peru–Chile Upwelling system over the last ∼70 ka. Denitrification changes in the southeast Pacific are coherent with Antarctic climate changes recorded by the Byrd ice core δ18O record, and lead northern hemisphere climate events. The southern-hemisphere character of the Chile margin δ15N record suggests that episodes of reduced denitrification in the SE Pacific represent times when more oxygen was supplied as the result of changes in the ventilation and preformed nutrient content of Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW), which forms in the Subantarctic zone of the Southern Ocean and feeds into the low-latitude thermocline.  相似文献

During the Late Pliocene–Middle Pleistocene, 56 species and 15 genera of elongate, cylindrical benthic foraminifera disappeared from the deep sea in the South China Sea (ODP Sites 1143 and 1146) as part of the last global extinction in the deep sea. This extinction group (Ext. Gp) exhibited a pulsed decline in abundance and species richness mostly during glacials, and often associated with periods of expansion of polar ice that resulted from increased cooling of the Earth's climate since ∼2.5 Ma, particularly during the Mid-Pleistocene Climate Transition (MPT, 1.2–0.6 Ma). We infer that the Ext. Gp decline in abundance and disappearance was a result of the increased glacial cooling and consequent increased ventilation of the deep-sea water masses. The detailed record of withdrawal of the Ext. Gp differs between the two sites, with far more disappearances occurring prior to the MPT in the deeper Site 1143 (2772 m) than in the shallower Site 1146 (2092 m). The Late Pliocene and Early Pleistocene declines in deeper parts of the South China Sea (Site 1143) may have resulted from enhanced glacial production of deep, southern-sourced water passing over the sill into the basin from the North-west Pacific. During the MPT however, the Ext. Gp declines and disappearances were of similar timing and magnitude in both sites, implying that both were influenced by the same deep-water mass during glacials at this time. This could have been North Pacific Deep Water, which many workers infer was formed in the northern Pacific during the last glacial, and may have begun forming during MPT glacials, in association with the progressively enhanced cooling of the Northern Hemisphere.  相似文献
